Key Information

How big is the dome?

Our 5m dome needs a floor space of 6 x 6 metres and a ceiling height of 3.3m. Please check for hanging projectors or lights.

We will need an indoor space with a smooth, clean floor and access to mains power.

How many people can the planetarium seat?

We can fit up to 30 small children or approx 20 older children/adults.

At least one member of staff must accompany the children during the shows.

Audiences are seated on the floor. If gym mats can be provided to cover the whole floor area then this is encouraged. If any members of the group are unable to sit on the floor there is very limited capacity for 1 or 2 chairs to be brought in.

Often our audiences like to lie down which is only possible with smaller groups.

How does a timetable work?

Show last between 30-40 mins, depending on your audience and timetable requirements. We can usually fit 2 or 3 shows into a morning and 5 shows into a full day visit. We need 45-60 mins to set up and 30 mins to take down. The dome can temporarily be taken down for lunch if necessary in which case we need to allow 15 mins to take down and 25 mins to put back up.

What age is the planetarium suitable for?

The planetarium is a magical experience for all ages and as most of our content is presenter led sessions can be adapted to suit different audiences. For very young children we can also do story sessions in the dome – reading space themed story books under the twinkling night sky. If you would like to book the planetarium for an adult group then please get in touch.

Where do we travel?

We are based in Bath and can travel up to an hour to different schools. If you are further away we can still visit but will need to charge travel costs and it may impact what time we are able to arrive on site.

Accessibility

The dome is a wonderfully immersive and relaxing environment and a perfect place for children with special educational needs to learn. We are aware that some sensory experiences can be overwhelming – it is dark and the sound can echo around the dome. Please contact us to discuss how we can support the individual needs of your group.

A wheelchair can be accommodated but this does reduce the capacity for our dome so please notify us in advance.

Some presentations include flashing images so presenters should be notified of children who are adversely affected by this.
